Directed’s Sister Company Buys Onkyo

Onkyo purchased Sound United

Sound United, part of DEI Holdings, which also owns Directed, has reached a deal to buy Onkyo’s consumer audio division, which includes Pioneer and Pioneer Elite home brands.

Under the deal, Onkyo will join other Sound United brands including Denon, Polk Audio and Marantz.

Sound United chief Kevin Duffy will lead the company. Duffy, who was previously President of Directed Electronics became CEO & President of Sound United in 2016.

The acquisition is expected to help Sound United “better innovate across product categories,” it said.

Duffy said, “We are thrilled by the opportunity to add the venerable Onkyo and Pioneer brands to our portfolio. Sound United is one of the leading dedicated providers of premium audio/video products, and we believe the combined businesses will bring unrivaled innovation and sound performance to our consumers and channel partners

He continued, “Upon completion of the transaction, we will work tirelessly with the consumer audio division of Onkyo Corporation to ensure a seamless transition into the Sound United family so that all employees, customers and channel partners benefit from the enhanced breadth and depth of the new organization.”

Pioneer sold its home theater entertainment business to Onkyo in 2014.
