CTA Chooses 3 Car Tech Finalists

The Consumer Technology Association (CTA), has named three finalists for its  MECP Technician of the Year contest, It will announce the first place winner on September 15.

Finalists include Nicholas Frazier of iNNovative Concepts, West Springfield, MA, Shawn Curlee, currently at Jack Demmer Ford in the Detroit area, and Josh White of Car Toys, WA.

Frazier has been MECP certified since 2008 with Master certification since 2015. White has been an MECP Master since February 2008.  Curlee has been MECP certified since 2005 and an MECP Master since 2010.

Candidates answered the following questions:

  • Why do you feel you should be selected as the MECP Technician of the Year?
  • What differentiates you from other MECP certified technicians?
  • In what ways are you  a role model and leader for MECP technicians and the aftermarket industry?
  • How do you within your company, promote the MECP program to your peers and customers?

For the finalist round, candidates submitted a 3 minute video addressing the following:

  • What inspired you to become MECP certified?
  • Why is MECP certification important to you?
  • How has MECP certification made a difference in your career?
  • What did your journey look like to become MECP certified?
  • What opportunities do you see for the MECP program in the future?
  • What would be your advice to someone thinking about pursuing MECP certification?
  • If you could make one change to the program, what would it be?
The Judging Panel includes members of the MECP Committee and/or the CTA Vehicle Technology Division Board.
The Technician of the Year will receive free CES 2019 registration and reimbursement for airfare to Las Vegas up to $750 plus 4 nights’ hotel accommodations at a total value of $2,300.
