Press Release (edited):

Sprint has launched a 5G-Ready Connected Car Platform to be sold at car dealerships.

The system combines high speed WiFi for passengers combined with driver safety and health monitoring in the car.  It offers Sprint LTE and will switch to faster speeds when Sprint 5G service launches in the first half of 2019.

Users will be able to connect their devices and will be able to order broadband service without relying on their smartphone plan, said Sprint.

In addition, users get collision detection, teen controls, anti-theft features androadside assistance.  There’s also vehicle maintenance features and the ability to schedule and book maintenance appointments.

Sprint also teamed with along with NXM Labs to make the platform one of the first blockchain powered Internet-of-Things (IoT) security system that guards against hackers.

“Through the power of blockchain technology, NXM provides an advanced level of security and advanced capabilities to vehicles that might not otherwise have it, even extending Wi-Fi,” said Ivo Rook, SVP of IoT for Sprint. “With the power of Sprint’s high-speed LTE and upcoming 5G network behind the technology, consumers will be able to experience the latest in automotive technology, even in early-model vehicles.”

The platform will be available this fall at “leading automotive dealers nationwide.”
