Cerwin-VPAS12ST- spare tire sub

Cerwin-Vega Mobile announced it is shipping the spare tire subwoofer it first introduced at CES in January.

A 12-inch powered active subwoofer, the model VPAS12ST fits into the center hub of the spare tire area in most trunks. It allows users to add bass without sacrificing trunk space.

The spare tire subwoofer is enclosed in die cast aluminum with aero-vents to dissipate heat.  It’s rated at 150 watts RMS @ 2Ω and designed with a PWM MOSFET power supply and thermal protection circuit.

It comes with a remote control for gain, bass boost (0-12dB), low pass filter (50-150 Hz), and phase switch of 0 or 180 degrees for potential time alignment tuning adjustments.

The unit measures 5.7” in height and 14.2” in diameter so it fits in a 15 inch wheel well. Retail pricing ranges from  $379.99 to $449.99.

At CES, JBL also showed a spare tire subwoofer called the BassPro Hub.  The 11 inch powered subwoofer also mounts inside 15 inch or larger spare tires. It has a built-in Class D amplifier delivering 200 watts. It has a quick release feature and it comes with a wired remote control for gain, phase and frequency control.  We asked JBL when it’s due for shipping and will report back.  The subwoofer is due to ship soon.  The expected street price back in January was $399.
