VOXX Electronics is entering the market for replacement remote key fobs with two Advent product lines for car audio specialists and expeditors.
The lines are designed to create plus business for car audio shops.
“A customer comes into a 12 volt shop to get a new radio and sitting on the shelf are these transmitters. So if they have a used car that didn’t come with the factory key fob, we have the replacements,” said VOXX VP of vehicle security and telematics Joe Dentamaro.
The first remote transmitter line replaces the key fob only (not the metal key). The second line replaces the actual key, as well as the key fob, by providing a blank key, that the customer can then take to the dealer to cut to match his car. For those retailers making a commitment to the segment, VOXX will also offer key cutting machines and programmers.
“Expeditors or retailers can spend $5 or $6,000 in key cutting equipment and quickly recoup the cost. Expeditors would sell these keys to car dealerships. Car dealers take in cars on trade all the time. Or people return leased cars and they lost their second key. This is an avenue for the expeditor to sell to the car dealers,” Dentamaro said.
For the key fob-only program, Advent is selling two universal replacement remotes that work with close to 70 million vehicles on the road today. Both styles offer lock, unlock, trunk open and panic alarm. The two remotes are styled differently to match OEM key fobs. The first is for vehicles from 1997 to 2016. It replaces 216 remotes covering 62 million vehicles. The second matches vehicles from 1989 to 2002, replacing 156 remotes and compatible with over 5 million vehicles.
Each has a suggested retail price of $34.95. Advent says the fobs offer better than OEM range. They provide two auxiliary buttons for functions such as remote start or power van door opening. They offer “superior water resistance” and come with a 3-year warranty. The fobs are designed and assembled in the US.
VOXX says the second series of remotes with the key are “the world’s first universal remotehead keys.” The line includes a small selection of about 10 keys to work with many vehicles including models from Buick, Chevrolet, Chrysler, Dodge, Ford, GMC, Lincoln, Mazda, Mercury, Jeep and Volkswagen.
The key fobs have similar features to the non-key versions and each carry a suggested retail price of $89.95.
