Car Toys is changing its strategies for growth and competition, it said last week.

Long time VP Merchandising & Marketing for Car Toys, Jim Warren is leaving the 50-store, Seattle-based chain at the end of the year.

Car Toys is currently seeking a new VP Merchandising responsible for leading all buying and planning activities for the company. He will serve as part of the executive management team for the chain.  An add for the position is currently posted on LinkedIn.

In a letter to select industry members, CEO Dan Brettler said, “Our business demands that we change our thinking, our approach, and our strategies around growth and competition to continue to maintain our leadership in our space as a specialty retailer.  With a transformation of this magnitude, we endeavor to adhere to a concrete plan, and to execute our changes at the appropriate time for the targeted result. After discussing this at length with Greg Parsonson and I, our Vice President of Merchandising, Jim Warren, has elected to leave the Car Toys business effective December 31, 2017.  Jim has played an important role in the history and growth of the business, and I truly support him in whatever his next chapter brings.”

Warren said he plans to remain in the car audio business and will stay in Seattle.

“Car Toys is a wonderful place. I’ll miss it deeply,” he said, adding that he’s glad to have the opportunity to remain through the end of the year and help with the transition.

Warren was Senior VP Merchandising at Car Toys for 9 years until 2006 when he went to Harman as Senior VP Sales & Marketing.  He returned to Car Toys in 2010.
