Alpine's first dashcams

Alpine Electronics announced its first dashcams at CES,  including one model that can work with Alpine radios.

The dashcams come in two versions.  The stealth version  (DVR-C320R) can work with select Alpine radios so drivers can control dash camera functions directly from the Alpine radio.  This version also includes lane-departure warnings, front collision warnings and front car movement warnings.

Both new dashcams, including the DVR-C310R,  come with a second rear-view camera, which may be used by ride share drivers to aim at the rear seat.  The second camera can also face the rear to capture rear-end accidents.

The dashcams are WiFi-enabled and record in HD picture quality with clarity in night conditions. They offer three recording modes–driving, parking and all-time recording.  In driving mode, the units will record an impact during an accident five seconds before or after it occurs. Parking mode will record an accident, such as a rear-end, ten seconds after it occurs.

WiFi allows smartphone viewing of video from the dashcam.

“Alpine recognized a new customer and need for in-vehicle safety solutions,” said Mike Anderson, Vice President and General Manager, Brand Business Unit, Alpine Electronics of America, Inc. “Our new line of dash cameras seeks to respond to the change in perception of vehicle safety and accident prevention.”

The cameras are due to ship in July at a suggested $350 for the DVR-C310R Dash Camera and $450 for the DVR-C320R Stealth Dash Camera.
