A new head unit brand is heading to the US from the UK.
Road Angel, which supplies dash cams, entered the head unit market in the UK last January, and plans to launch its CarPlay/Android Auto decks in the US in January 2023.
Road Angel is owned by In Phase International, which produces home hifi equipment and car audio speakers/amplifiers and accessories. It also owns car audio and home hifi retail stores in the UK. It entered the car radio segment because the market leader in the UK “has not addressed our local demand,” said Road Angel Sales Director, Gary Digva.
To develop its radio line, Road Angel interviewed over 200 people including audio store owners, chain store owners, industry professionals, audio installers and end consumers to listen “to what they want from a stereo,” said Digva.
Road Angel is seeking distribution partners and will work its US distributor to set up the best route to market in the US.
In the UK, Road Angel offers two CarPlay/Android Auto head units with high resolution screens and strong margins. Road Angel is currently undergoing compliance testing for the US market. The model RA-X721DAB is a DAB version (European radio standard) and the RA-X621BT is non-DAB deck. Pricing is $499.99 and $399.99, respectively.
Two additional head units are under development “that will bring an array of new technologies into the car,” said Digva. He added, “The stereo we have under development will have world class features that have not been seen before on car [radios]. We are planning to launch these in second half of 2023.”
The new US deck will also include a new user interface.
Consumers get a 3-year warranty and product replacement if a Road Angel radio breaks.
