Apple press invite

Today’s speculation on the feverishly awaited Apple tablet centered on whether the product will focus on video, e-reading or both.    Furthering the tablet-as-e-reader theory is the Wall Street Journal, which reported that Apple is now in talks with HarperCollins Publishers to make e-books available to the tablet.   Apple is also  talking to other publishers as well, says the WSJ. Other late breaking reports say the tablet, possibly named the iSlate, and expected to debut at a press event set for January 27, will ship in June, a bit later than some earlier reports which pegged its delivery for March.

Engadget also rounded up a number of rumors on the screen size of the device—9.7 inches, 10.1 inches?

And there’s a frenzy of ideas on what the Apple invite to the press event cryptically signifies. The color splash (shown here) could be an indication of a color screen optimized for e-reading or that the device will focus on video.
