Holoride, which turns rear seat entertainment into a “theme park-like ride,” is due in the US next year in select Audi vehicles, announced holoride last week.
Holoride uses VR glasses to offer games that are tied into the movement of the car including steering, braking, and acceleration “with almost no latency,” said the company, based in Germany.
The action of the game slows when the car slows or the action shifts left or right depending on which way the car turns.
Holoride said its system substantially reduces motion sickness and it can be used with other content.
The system is launching in select Audi vehicles in Germany mid-month with releases in the US, Asia and other European countries next year. The holoride package is expected to cost about $700 including the HTC VIVE Flow VR glasses and an 8BitDo Pro 2 Gamepad and a one year gaming subscription. After the first year, the subscription is expected to cost about $20 per month or an annual fee of roughly $180, said PC Mag.com
Compatible Audi vehicles include the A4, A5, A6, A7, A8, Q5, Q7, Q7, Q8, Audi e-tron, Audi e-tron Sportback, and Audi e-tron GT.
