Firstech believes over the next ten years, the aftermarket dashcam market will grow exponentially in North America.
The dashcam market in this region is expected to more than double from $67 million in 2020 to $169 million by 2026, according to Mordor Intelligence. That’s a compound annual growth rate of 15.4 percent (2021-2026). The report cited a surging increase in accidents as part of the reason for growth.
Firstech entered the market in 2015 under the Momento brand for all things camera related. Dashcams, it said, are part of the security market, acting as an extension of traditional car security.
Firstech said it is investing heavily in the line and will continue to offer new camera-related products.
Now, as more drivers return to their commutes, there has been a surge in dashcam sales, it said.
The company just announced its first new Momento product in three years– a 3-channel model that allows recording of the car interior as well as front and rear views. Called the M7, it records in 2K QHD and offers battery saving technology.
It includes two cameras for front and rear and has an output for a third, interior camera. The 2K technology enables clear views of a license plate or faces. The new battery technology reduces battery drain. Since dashcams continue to monitor surroundings when the car is parked, they draw enough power to drain the battery in 24 hours, said Firstech.
The M7’s ECO mode can reduce power consumption by up to 90 percent. In ECO mode, the M7’s image sensor is turned off and it switches to radar to detect motion in front of the vehicle. If it senses motion, it reactivates the image sensors and begins recording.
The M7 has a built in 2-inch touch LCD for viewing video and it has an enhanced low light image sensor, and onboard GPS antenna. It joins the M6 at the top of the line (the M6 has a companion app for viewing video footage, rather than a screen).
The M7 has a 2-year warranty and will carry a price of $379.99. It is now available for pre-order.
