JBL Enters Pro Audio for Cars

Car audio’s pro audio segment continues to attract new entrants, the latest being JBL.

The company showed at KnowledgeFest last month new pro audio subwoofers, horn tweeters, mid drivers and bullet tweeters under the TRIO line, which is expected to ship in April.

JBL said it entered the segment as it is seeing growth in pro audio in the northeast and southeast US regions.

New JBL Tornado subwoofers will be available in 15 and 18 inches with a power handling of 2800 watts RMS/5600 peak each into 8 ohms.

The line also has two super tweeters with power handling of 150 watts RMS/8 ohms for the ST400 and 300 watts RMA/8 ohms for the ST450. Sensitivity is 111dB and 110 dB, respectively.

Also new are three sizes of midrange drivers–8, 10 and 12 inches and three compression drivers plus two horn solutions.

JBL’s entry into pro audio follows the company’s first motorcycle bike-specific replacement speakers that debuted towards the end of last year including new Kappa Perfect iPX5 waterproof replacements in 6.5- and 6 x 9-inches.  They are designed for Harley touring bikes years 2007 to the present.

    1. My thoughts exactly. Those 1000GTI’s they were advertising as being the same drivers used in concert speakers. And this business got started in the late 70’s installing pro equipment. We’ve gone full circle.
