Cool Car Tech at CES 2022

Among the top car audio companies, few are attending CES this year, with some forgoing the iconic show in the future, as well.

JVCKenwood, Pioneer, Alpine, Sony Mobile, Kicker, Metra, AAMP Global, AudioControl and Cerwin Vega/Diamond Audio all said they will not attend this year.

Update: Harman has also pulled out of CES 2022.

VOXX and Directed are still exhibiting at CES in Booth #16716.

Most of these companies, however, plan to display at KnowledgeFest in Las Vegas, February 18-20.

Alpine said its decision not to exhibit at CES is “based on the current environment and conditions.” Metra said that the SEMA and CEDIA shows are more relevant to its dealers. Cerwin Vega is no longer displaying at CES.

Many general electronics and car companies recently announced they will not participate in person at CES due to Omicron, but many will display virtually. These companies include General Motors, Microsoft, Google, Facebook (Meta), Amazon, Twitter, T-Mobile, Intel, Mercedes, Mobileye, and more, according to reports.

The CTA also announced on Friday it will shorten the show by one day due to COVID.  The last day of the show will now be January 7 rather than January 8. The show begins on Wednesday, January 5.

The step was taken as an additional safety measure to the current  health protocols that have been put in place for CES,” said the CTA.  Those health protocols include requiring proof of vaccination for all attendees.

“As the world’s most influential technology event, CES is steadfast in its pledge to be the gathering place to showcase products and discuss ideas that will ultimately make our lives better,” said Gary Shapiro, president and CEO, CTA. “We are shortening the show to three days and have put in place comprehensive health measures for the safety of all attendees and participants.”
