Long time consumer electronics leader and Best Buy President and Chief Operating Officer, Mike Mohan, will exit the retailer in July after 17 years with Best Buy, said The Star Tribune.
He was in charge of all in-store and online operations as well as merchandising, marketing, services and more.
Prior to joining Best Buy, Mohan was VP and General Merchandise Manager at the Good Guys. Before that, he held various positions at Future Shop in Canada.
Mohan, 53, will not be replaced and his duties will be taken over by a team of executives who previously reported to Mohan and will now report directly to CEO Corie Barry, according to a memo obtained by the Star Tribune. Those executives include Rob Bass who runs the company’s supply network and global property groups; Damien Harmon, Head of Omni Channel Operations and Jason Bonfig, Chief Merchant.
The Star Tribune said the memo included Barry’s reaction to Mohan’s departure. “We’ve worked together for so many years and built a true friendship I have grown to cherish. As his friend, I was proud that he was ready to leave a company he loves and set out to pursue his desire to do more,” she said. “As his colleague, I was truly saddened at the idea that I wouldn’t be able to count on his advice and insights as I have for so long.”
The memo did not state Mohan’s next career plans.
Mohan joined Best Buy in 2004 as VP of the digital imaging group. He eventually became Chief Merchandising Officer and Chief Marketing Officer and then in 2019 acquired the titles of President and COO.
