Alexa Gets Deeper Integration in Cars

Amazon announced it has opened up its Alexa Assistant software stack to carmakers and other companies to allow deeper integration into the car or other products.

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles was first to announce it will implement the new Alexa Custom Assistant with integration into its Uconnect infotainment system.  With the new integration, car makers can perform tasks such as switching radio stations, rolling down a window in the car, or playing an audiobook, all by voice.

Carmakers can also create their own wake words and their system will co-exist alongside and build on the full Alexa skill set and capabilities.

The company, be it a carmaker or consumer electronics company, can create their own wake words.
