Pioneer announced at virtual CES a new compact powered subwoofer, optimized for installation in the passenger footwell.

The new TS-WX010A, at 9 x 4 5/8  x 2 ¾ inches, is 48 percent smaller than the next smallest Pioneer powered subwoofer, said the company.

The new compact subwoofer delivers 50 watts nominal power and 160 watts maximum power.  The woofer has an aluminum diaphragm and a urethane surround. The rectangular woofer measures 6 5/8 inches by 3 1/8 inches deep.

Its small size and high electrical efficiency are especially suited to new, electric and hybrid vehicles.

“Electric and hybrid vehicles are increasing in both popularity and availability but upgrading the audio in these vehicles presents challenges for traditionally large and heavy powered subwoofers,” said Ted Cardenas, VP Marketing for Pioneer Electronics USA.

The TS-WX010A allows vertical or horizontal mounting. It accepts both RCA type line level or speaker level inputs for connectivity to aftermarket audio systems or integrated into factory installed systems.

Additional Information:

  • Frequency Response: 20Hz – 200Hz
  • Sensitivity: 98 dB (when installed in the passenger side footwell)
  • Adjustable phase (normal / reverse), low-pass crossover frequency (50Hz – 125Hz), gain and input type (RCA type line level / speaker level)

Cardenas said he expects to see more such products in the future.  “We tend to do our research and we have the advantage of having a large OEM presence.  We fully believe with the popularity of EV and legislation that probably will be coming, that gasoline vehicles won’t exist decades from now.  Pioneer believes this is a growing category.”

The TS-WX010A t ships this month at a price of $280.
