Atrend, a maker of speaker enclosures and owner of the Oz Audio brand of speakers and amplifiers, is seeking a buyer for Oz Audio.

Atrend acquired Oz Audio about 5 years ago with the intention of expanding the brand.  But it has shifted its corporate strategy to pursue a new avenue in speaker enclosures, its core business, instead.

It is selling the tooling, inventory, the brand, trademarks and marketing including website, etail stores and packaging of Oz Audio.

Oz Audio has been in the car audio marketplace since the 90s.  It was acquired by Atrend in 2016. Atrend’s goal at the time was to add subwoofers and amplifiers to its portfolio and to include them in its enclosures.

Instead, Atrend is taking a new direction in its enclosures, and concentrating on its core market.  It is adding a new line of boxes with built-in amplifiers but no woofers. “We’re taking what we’re good at and allowing our dealers to now choose whatever subwoofer they want. But it already comes with a built in amplifiers,” said Jason Hundal VP Sales & Marketing.

“If you look at pickup trucks that don’t have a lot of space under the seats…we’re coming out with a new line of vehicle specific boxes with amplifiers built in to the box ….to help with the whole issue [of space],” he added.

Universal boxes loaded with 300 watt RMS amplifiers are currently shipping.  This summer, Atrend will offer vehicle specific models for about 10 to 15 popular trucks. Additionally, models will be available with 500 watt RMS amplifiers.

With typical loaded powered subwoofer enclosures, if the subwoofer fails, “you are stuck, the whole unit has failed,” said Hundal. With the new enclosures with amplifier only, users can replace a subwoofer if it fails.
