JL Audio recently began shipping a new entry level line of JD car audio amplifiers joined by new marine products including the company’s largest marine subwoofer to date.
JL Audio is also now shipping its MVi marine DSP/amplifier line first announced last year.
The new JD amplifiers replace the entry JX line and brings in technology from more upscale lines (See top photo). The four new amps use NexD switching, which reduces heat output and allows for the line’s compact size. The JD amps feature LED clipping indicators for easy level setting.
JD amps include three monoblock and one 4 channel models. The JD400/4 delivers 4 x 75 watts at 4 ohms and 4 x 100 watts at 2 ohms (2 x 200 watts at 4 ohms bridged) at a suggested retail price of $229.99.
Monoblocks are rated at 250, 500 and 1000 watts at $189.99, $229.99 and $389.99, respectively.
Monoblock models also include a bass boost EQ and a port for an optional RBC-1 controller to adjust the subwoofer level from the driver’s seat (RBC-1 at $44.99).
The amplifiers offer auto-on capabilities (via signal sensing and DC-offset sensing) and dual-range differential-balanced inputs to combat noise and to accommodate a wide range of signal types.
JL Audio M7 Marine Subwoofer
M7 is JL Audio’s new top of the line and largest marine speaker at 12 inches. It can handle more than twice the power of the brand’s 10-inch M6 and has more woofer excursion than any other JL Audio marine subwoofer, said the company.
The M7 also gets 61 percent more cone area than the M6 for more than 2.25 times the air displacement capability. JL Audio said this results in 6 decibels of additional output capability.
The 4-ohm infinite baffle woofers handle 600 watts RMS with a mounting depth of 7.94 inches at suggested retail prices of $799-$849. RGB LED illumination is optional as is an RGB lighting controller that also works with M6 and M3 products.
JL Audio Marine MVi DSP/Amps
JL Audio is shipping its 8-model line of MVi networkable DSP amplifiers for the marine market. Instead of using traditional control knobs and switches, they can be configured from the captain’s seat of a boat using JL’s TuN software on a smarphone, tablet or computer.
JL says the TuN software makes it quick and easy to tune the audio system for the best acoustics for the boat.
The amps feature analog pre-amp outputs with independent DSP processing. They can store up to 6 sound presets that can be switched easily so boaters can have different presets when docked or when “running” or on a sandbar.
Optional accessories include a Bluetooth device to communicate between the amp and a phone or other compatible mobile device. A network hub is also available and a push button control with RGB indicator to allow preset selection from the helm.
