Samsung introduced a line of new S20 phones that include a new Ultra model with zoom the equivalent of a telescope, it said Tuesday.

The full line of 5G phones (S20/S20+/S20 Ultra) includes a revamped camera upgraded to full 8K video. It not only captures in 8K, but lets you share video in 8K over 5G and then cast it onto an 8K TV.

The camera also now automatically takes a picture in multiple modes such as ultra wide and more. The user is then shown a handful of shots and chooses the best.

Samsung said, “With the Galaxy S20, we’ve created a phone that will change photography.”

The new S20 Ultra sports a 108MP AI (artificial intelligence) camera.  The camera takes multiple frames and merges them into one photo within a tenth of a second.  It captures 3 times more light in every image, said Samsung.

It has a 10X hybrid optic zoom and a 10X digital zoom that can magnify an image 100 times, “which is what you’d expect from a telescope,” said Samsung’s Drew Blackard.

It provides full HD video chat and improved gaming with less lag. Samsung also announced a partnership with Xbox to allow cloud based streaming.

Prices start at $999 for the S20, $1,199 for the S20+ and $1,399 for the Ultra.  The line is expected to release on March 20.
