NAV-TV is partnering with a Russian-based high tech alarm company to act as its exclusive distributor in the US.
The company, Author Alarm, has developed security systems that prevent vehicle thefts such as relay attacks. The products are CAN-based, vehicle agnostic and are flashed with vehicle-specific software upon installation. This allows dealers to stock less inventory, yet cover a wide range of vehicles at the same time.
NAV-TV Vice President Derek Schmiedl said, “It allows dealers to sell auto security, which has gone the way of the dinosaur. Remote start sales are still strong, but a lot of …people believe their factory systems are sufficient. But with push to start, their factory systems allow for theft very easily. Author Alarm allows the dealers to re-enter the vehicle security category in vehicles they haven’t been able to install security in for 20 years– Mercedes, BMWs, Porsches…”
Author Alarm products also complement NAV-TV’s new Secure-a-Key anti-relay attack device, which wraps around the battery of your factory key fob to protect your key from relay attacks.
The companies will show the Author Alarm line this month at the Dallas Knowledgefest event in booths 443 and 843.
“What we’re going to teach at KnowledgeFest is sales tactics. Would the BMW owner who comes in for remote start would normally get a security system? Some retailers do less than 1 percent in security. There’s no way they’ll be able to sell it to a Mercedes, BMW or Porsche customer. With this training we want to train them to upsell. We’ll be teaching them about the threat of relay attacks,” continued Schmiedl.
“Car thefts in the United States have been rising each year since 2015, especially amongst push-to-start automobiles. Modern vehicle owners have a false sense of security and believe that the factory security system is sufficient to deter theft,” Schmiedl added. “Unfortunately, the technology they believe will keep their car safe actually makes it incredibly easy to steal. We are excited to have the opportunity to introduce Author Alarm’s universal security and convenience products to our USA dealers and are confident that they will appreciate the ability to again be profitable in the automotive security category.”

IGLA 200, 231 and PRO:
The IGLA is a tiny immobilizer device that defeats engine start and other vehicle features using CAN bus technology. The optional anti-hijack feature is included and can be engaged at the time of installation. Deactivation is achieved using a user programmable PIN-code that is entered using the vehicles factory buttons, a free smart phone application or key fob (231 and PRO come with the key fob for disarming the device). The IGLA PRO includes the TOR digital solid-state water proof relay for additional mechanical theft protection.
OBD Block:
OBD BLOCK is designed to protect the OBD-II diagnostic connector from unauthorized access, additional key programming or digitally disarming the factory vehicle alarm and immobilizer system. Deactivation is achieved using a user programmable PIN-code that is entered using the vehicles factory buttons.
KEYLESS BLOCK:
KEYLESS BLOCK disables the factory passive keyless entry system if there is no key fob or smartphone next to the car. When a key fob or smart phone is within 30 feet the car, the regular Keyless system is activated and keyless access for the owner is restored.
COMFORT:
The COMFORT system uses the vehicle CAN bus to automatically close the car windows, closes the hatch and fold the mirrors. Folding of mirrors and a hatch depends on the car and its factory features.
