SQL Audio is a new sound damping company owned by two brothers, Scott and Alex Hirst, that is launching with the help of Chris Cope, co-owner of 3-store Canadian chain Certified Autosound & Security. Cope serves as Corporate Development Manager.
SQL Audio sells a line of sound damping sheets and speaker strips that eliminate the need to carry multiple stock keeping units.
The speaker strips wrap around a speaker so that one size fits all. The installer cuts off what he doesn’t need. The ridged material bends easily and is backed by 3M tape, says the company.
SQL Audio launched after Cope posted Instagram pictures of the sound damping materials used in his store. “[Other retailers] were asking where to get it and we were just using it for ourselves. We saw a need and a demand in the market,” Cope said.
SQL’s Sound Mat material and Sound Waves speaker strips soft-launched in February, aimed at independent specialists. A full launch will take place at KnowledgeFest in Dallas in August.
The company currently sells to about 50 US dealers. It’s Canadian distributor is Importel and it is looking for a distributor in the US, particularly on the East Coast.
Currently, product is warehoused in Arizona.
Cope said, “We don’t sell it online and never will. It’s not going on Amazon. I’m an independent retailer and that’s who we are going after; little independent retailers at a very aggressive price point with very good product.”
