A video introducing consumers to aftermarket car audio is now available to dealers to post on their social media sites from the Consumer Technology Association (CTA).

Participating in the video is  Chris McNulty, owner of Driven Mobile Electronics in VA.  The shop performed the install  for the video’s featured car, which includes technology such as CarPlay, remote start, and rear seat entertainment.

More than five local bloggers and social media “influencers” in the DC area participated in the video, test driving the car and commenting on the technology.

“A few years ago we started experiments with influencers; either bloggers or people with a large social media following, as a way to reach consumers. We’ve done this with other CTA groups.  We also do in-person influencer events; …” said CTA spokeswoman Danielle Cassognol.  “When the [Vehicle Technology Division] board came to us with the directive to promote aftermarket vehicle technology to consumers, we decided to go this route.”

The campaign has reached over 1.3 million viewers to date with over 33,000 engagements.  The typical engagement rate for this type of campaign is 4 to 5 percent, but the video created almost 15 percent engagement, said Cassognol.

The CTA is encouraging dealers to post the video on their social media and websites to help educate consumers on aftermarket products.

The video shows influencers using the car’s blind spot detection system, rear seat entertainment, remote start, a backup camera and a touchscreen multimedia receiver.  It shows off MECP technicians and the benefits of the above products.

The CTA has held other vehicle technology influencer events in the past, partnering with tech website Techlicious to hold in-person influencer events in cities including Dallas, Chicago and Portland.  Participating brands included Brandmotion, Pioneer, Delphi, VOXX and Cobra, among others.
