JBL introduced at CES a new 8 inch “clamshell” subwoofer that splits in half for easier mounting in a trunk or saddlebag. When separated, the subwoofers can be operated independently.
Called the Fuse, the system includes two thin 8-inch subwoofers and two 8-inch passive “racetrack radiators.”
Each subwoofer “half” handles 300 watts at a 4 ohm load.
Harman claims the Fuse is 7 dB louder than one of its best-selling subwoofers.
As two separate subwoofers, the Fuse can can easily fit under seats, under packing shelves or in saddle bags.
The Fuse is due to ship this summer at $279.
Also new from JBL parent Harman is an Infinity gauge radio for marine use that lets you control from the radio the speakers’ back lighting. It has four- zone control, and a rear camera to view a water skier. The model RV-515 is expected to ship in April at $599.
If each of those little dudes handles 300wrms they may really be on to something. Not convinced at the power handling, though. Cool idea!
