CES 2019

Each year we reveal the top aftermarket car audio products at CES, based on the number of clicks on product stories published during the show.

This year’s winner was the new Pioneer SPH-10BT— a single DIN, mechless (CDless) car radio with a cradle for a smartphone.  The smartphone becomes the touchscreen for the car radio through Pioneer’s Smart Sync app.  The deck ships in February at $150.

The runner up for CES 2019 was a super shallow-mount Alpine iLX-W650 that mates with a mini amp.  Together the components are still narrower than a typical double DIN chassis, and the combination creates a powerful car radio with an extra 50 watt by 4 amp that performs at the level of 100 watt by 4 amp, claims Alpine. In third place for the most clicks was a story on a new series of NEX modular radios from Pioneer ,where the screen and radio chassis may be separated.  The series of 3 radios includes Pioneer’s first radio with an 8-inch screen.

Pioneer took the fourth place slot as well.  It has teamed up with LoJack, the long-time stolen vehicle recovery service that works with law enforcement to find a stolen vehicle.  The initial product is an OBD2 device for vehicle recovery and more, but Pioneer plans to include LoJack’s service in a car radio in the future. See the story here.

Coming in at number five was Alpine’s new, lower cost version of the popular Halo 9 radio with a “floating” 9-inch screen.  The new model iLX-F259 is expected to ship in March at $800.
