Pioneer Considers New Audiophile Car Audio System

Pioneer is now offering radio chassis with separate screen to ease installation on difficult vehicles. And it is partnering with Metra to offer vehicle specific installation kits for the new 3-model line.

The new Pioneer “modular” NEX models also include Pioneer’s first 8-inch radio screen. It will be offered as a Pioneer “Limited” product aimed at specialist retailers.

The other two new decks come with 6.8-inch detached screens (one under Pioneer’s Limited line and a second similar model for general distribution).

The radio chassis connect to the screens via a short cable, with extension cables available as options.

The new Pioneer modular NEX radios, with CarPlay and Android Auto (wired) are geared to challenging vehicles such as the Ford F150 or Dodge RAM where space for a radio is limited.   The radio can be hidden away and the screens mounted flush to the dash.  Metra will create several vehicle specific kits for the line, said Pioneer.

The three new modular NEX units ship in March at $450 street price for the 6.8 inch models and $650 for the 8 inch.
