The Mobile Electronics Certified Professional (MECP) Technician of the Year has been named by the Consumer Technology Association (CTA) as Josh White of Car Toys. This is the first such award offered by the CTA.

White has been a Master Installation Technician for 12 years. He was selected in part for his role as a mentor to many other installer/techs in the industry and for “constantly striving to further his knowledge on complex elements.”

White said,  “I have been in 12 volt for 17 years and I still love it very much today.  I started with a small mom and pop shop, then moved to Best Buy where I spent around 10 years as a full time technician.  In 2013 I decided to join the team at Firstech (Compustar/Drone) and started taking tech support calls in early 2014.  Last year I moved back into the install bay thanks to Car Toys.. I missed fabricating, performing installs and the customer/tech interactions.  Car Toys offered me a unique opportunity to install and teach, and they’ve been really supportive of my career goals.”

White will receive an expenses-paid trip to CES 2019 and will accept the award at CES on the CTA Stage in the Grand Lobby of the Las Vegas Convention Center during the show, Jan. 8-11.

White was originally inspired by his dad, Daniel White, who rebuilds and re-finishes pianos.  His dad also loves cars and “building things out of wood and playing music; I didn’t fall far from the tree,” said White.

“Over the years I’ve attended Mobile Solutions fabrication training several times as well as Educar and any training events I can possibly attend.  If I can give a new technician 1 piece of advice; take as many classes as you can; no matter how small or big, free or otherwise,” he added.

Kris Bulla, MECP Committee Chairman said, “Vehicle technology is saving lives on the road and enhancing the overall experience of driving – you need a skilled professional to make sure your new technology is properly and carefully installed. We are thrilled to recognize Josh White for not only his technical skills but his ability to go above and beyond in these efforts.”

Two other finalists in the first year of the MECP Tech of the Year awards program were Nicholas Frazier of iNNovative Concepts, West Springfield, MA, and Shawn Curlee, currently at Jack Demmer Ford in the Detroit area.
