Best Buy Q4 2020

Best Buy will begin carrying Waylens’ advanced dashcams this fall at the majority of its stores, said Waylens, a relatively new company led by former managers of ESCORT radar detectors.

Waylens sells the Secure360, a dashcam with a 360 degree camera that can “see” and record footage all around the car  with a single camera lens.  The WiFi version is on the market currently, but a 4G version is due shortly that acts as a ‘Ring Doorbell for the car.’

The 4G version is also due to be sold at Best Buy stores.  This week, it finally began shipping to Waylens’ backers on Kickerstarter and Indiegogo, and will head to retailers, including 12 volt specialists, shortly after, said Waylens President Tim Coomer.

The Secure 360 4G will notify you if someone dings or dents your parked car and then allow you to peer on your smartphone in real time, in and around your car.  You may also view recent video footage of your car from the cloud on your phone to see who or what dinged your car.  In fact, since you can see into the car from your smartphone at any time, parents can check on their teens as they drive.

The Secure360 4G  appears to be the first 4G dashcam aimed at 12 volt specialists and brick and mortar retailers (competitors Owl and Raven are still largely sold directly to consumers).

The Waylens dashcam uses radar, a 3-axis accelerometer and GPS to detect unusual events even when the car is turned off for an extended time. Low-power sensors allow the Secure360 to actively scan the perimeter to protect an unattended vehicle for an “unprecedented” 360 hours or 15 days.

The WiFi version has the same DVR features but it doesn’t send notifications and it doesn’t allow a live stream view of the car.  If someone dings your car you are still able to go back and look at footage off an SD card streamed to your phone.

The dashcams work with an app.  The Secure360 4G will carry a retail price of $399.95 plus a $10/month service charge that covers 1GB of usage with a rolling 7 days of free cloud storage.   The WiFi version has a retail price of $299.95.

Waylens also markets the Horizon dashcam for driving enthusiasts that links to the OBD2 port that gives drivers metrics on their driving skills.  The Horizon is also heading to Best Buy stores this fall.  And both the Horizon and Secure360 WiFi are now on the Bestbuy.com website.

Waylens is a privately held company based in Cambridge, MA with offices in Cincinnati, Austin and Shanghai.  For more information visit waylens.com
