Marking the first time Crutchfield has added a mainstream car audio brand to its catalog in many years as a consistent item, the retailer is now carrying Memphis Audio car audio products.

For Memphis, Crutchfield is the first online retailer for the brand.  It launched in the Crutchfield catalog in March and is now available at www.crutchfield.com.

Memphis said it opened up its distribution to an Internet retailer for the first time because the younger generation now shops from their smartphones and so Memphis was not visible to this audience.

“We felt we need to embrace being online without hurting our dealers’ margins and Crutchfield does an excellent job of selling an manufacturer’s suggested price or, at worst, MAP [minimum advertised price],” said Memphis Audio VP Nick LoMonaco.

He added that the manufacturer’s suggested retail price can provide 60 margin points to retailers.

Much of Memphis Audio’s core car audio  line is available at Crutchfield and its new powersports products will appear in Crutchfield in the future.  Memphis’ larger amplifiers and subwoofers are not on Crutchfield.

Crutchfield is ranked as the number 6 retailer in car audio and electronics, with sales of $113.7 million in car audio in 2015, according to the TWICE top 25 Car Electronics Retailers registry.   (It is ranked behind only Best Buy, Amazon, Walmart, RadioShack and Costco).
