Feature Story–Pioneer will ship within a week, the first car radios in the industry to include both wireless CarPlay and Android Auto wireless, confirmed VP Marketing Ted Cardenas.

The new AVIC-W8400NEX  and AVH-W4400NEX allow cable-free connections to car radios for both CarPlay and Android Auto.  They are offered at the same street prices as the models they replace at $1,200, and $700, respectively, but they do not come with a backup camera..

A third model, the AVIC-W6400NEX at $800 street price offers wireless CarPlay, but does not include Android Auto at all.

The AVH-W4400 is a 7-inch AV/deck without navigation. The 6400 includes navigation with a 6.2-inch screen and the top line AVIC-W8400 has both navigation and a 7-inch screen.

To date no OEM or aftermarket includes wireless connections for both CarPlay and Android Auto,  Wireless capacity has been an either or proposition, so Alpine has a wireless CarPlay model and Kenwood and JVC offer Android Auto wireless models.

The AVH-W4400 has a full detachable face plate and the AVIC-W640000  has a partial detachable face, where the small control panel on the left side detaches for security.

The radios offer dual USB ports and dual camera inputs as well as SiriusXM capability, HD Radio, HDMI, and FLAC file playback.

The 8400 has a capacitive touch screen while the AVH-W4400 and AVIC-W6400 screens are resistive.

The decks represent the third generation of the NEX line, which was launched in 2014, said Cardenas.
