Spotify has announced it will hold a press event on April 24 in New York City.

This combined with the fact that some Spotify users have received offers for a new in-car device, has led tech news sites to suspect the company is planning an aftermarket in-car controller for its Spotify music service.

The offer showed a picture of the device (see above), reported The Verge.  It comes with a free with 1-year subscription to Spotify at $12.99 per month.  The device has an LED ring round it with physical buttons for track up down and shuffle play.

Based on Reddit and Spotify forums, different variations of the device were offered to different users back in February.  Some were presented with a device with built-in 4G so there was no need for a separate smartphone.
