Long range weather forecasts call for extra frigid weather in parts of the North and lots of snow in the Northeast with the coldest temps hitting in January.
Accuweather is predicting especially frigid temperatures on the Northern Plains.
Accuweather said, “Some chilly winter weather is in store for the Northeast and mid-Atlantic, with January threatening to bring the coldest air of the season. Although however cold, low temperatures will pale in comparison to those in the northern Plains where the mercury is set to dip to minus 30 degrees Fahrenheit at times.”
Boston and New York could experience an extra 6 inches above average snowfall this winter. Mid Atlantic states will also see a chilly winter with above normal snowfall.
Additionally, “Areas prone to lake-effect snow will also see high totals, including Cleveland, Ohio; Erie, Pennsylvania; and Buffalo, New York,” said Accuweather.
The Farmer’s Almanac is also predicting a cold and snowy Northeast this winter with heavy snow also in the Great Lakes region.
But the heaviest snow may come later in the remote start season. The Farmer’s Almanac said, “Of particular note, for those readers rooting for shovels, we are red-flagging the 2018 dates of January 20-23, February 4-7 & 16-19, and March 1-3 & 20-23 along the Atlantic Seaboard.”
