JBL Hybrid Car Subwoofer

JBL will ship December 1, a subwoofer that can undock from the car for use as a portable streaming Bluetooth speaker.

Called the BassPro Go, the subwoofer was originally shown as a prototype at CES 2017, but is finally set to reach consumers.   It delivers the same power as an 8-inch subwoofer when it’s mounted in a car docking station. But it can be removed for use elsewhere as a streaming music speaker that works with up to three smartphones or other devices.

In portable mode, the subwoofer delivers 8 hours of play back.   Users can also wirelessly link two BassPro Go speakers together for amplified sound.

“The JBL BassPro Go is the first of its kind and will set a new standard in the Aftermarket industry,” said Shawn Spedding, Director of Sales, Mobile Audio Aftermarket at JBL parent, HARMAN.

The BassPro Go has a retail price of $549.
