One of the top trends for 2020 is the increasingly larger screens in new car radios. Seven inch screens are giving way to 8-, 9- and 10-inch models. Jensen and Stinger are jumping on the bandwagon, shipping 10-inch radios just prior to the new year.
New from Jensen is the CAR1000 at a low suggested retail price of $399.99. Due to ship shortly, the mechless (CD/DVD-less) radio with 10.1-inch screen includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It also has a push-to-talk button to allow access to voice assistants on a connected smartphone.
The CAR1000 has a capacitive touch screen with a resolution of 1024p x 600p. It includes AM/FM radio, front and rear USB, front panel microSD input, back up camera input and steering wheel compatibility.
From Stinger is the HEIGH10 first announced in November. Now shipping, it offers a 10-inch capacitive touchscreen with a separate tuner box. The modular radio includes CarPlay and Android Auto and is SiriusXM compatible. The screen delivers 16.7 million colors.
The HEIGH10 has a fiber optic Toslink output and 15-band equalizer with crossover, and time correction. It also has 4 camera inputs for blind spot monitoring.
The HEIGH10 works with most standard Double DIN installation kits or a specialty kit such as an upcoming PAC Wrangler JL kit (that will also be compatible with the 8-inch ELEV8 radio from Stinger). The HEIGH10 also works with an SE-SDIN single DIN kit.
When will more info on the Jensen product be announced? Looks really interesting
