An award-winning retailer and 12 volt trainer will offer a class next year on how to set up a car audio shop. For those who already own a store, the course will include how to generate more business.

Jason Kranitz, owner of Kingpin Car & Marine Audio has relocated his shop to Las Vegas, from Oregon and is videotaping the process.

“The idea is we’re going to be opening our books.  I’m doing a video diary so I can tell everybody the things we did to get customers in the door, how to go after a certain clientele, and how to get jobs,” he said.

“One of our biggest problems in our industry is most retailers don’t have professional help. We are going to literally show our monthly revenue in Quickbooks, sales, expenses, where we spent the money and what we did each step of the way,” said Kranitz.

The course is expected to run for 3 or 4 days.

“I’m filming everything I do from start to finish.  What I’ve learned over the 12 years in business is what not to do…I can show everyone what we’re going to do to start a store, from finding a building, to figuring out a location, to marketing.”

The new Kingpin location is 4800 square feet and includes a classroom for its training program.  There’s a second floor mezzanine where classes will be held.

Kranitz is shifting his focus from retail to his Kingpin University training program for other retailers.  “Before we were 90 percent retail and 10 percent training.”  Now he plans to be 65 percent training and 35 percent retail. Kingpin also sells jigs, templates and router bits and has a car cover protection line.

The original Kingpin in Oregon achieved sales of close to $1 million a year, Kranitz said.

Kingpin University launched 5 years ago. Its originated when other retailers visited the shop in Oregon to learn its practices.  “It just naturally turned into what we’re doing now.”

Kingpin University will hold its first laser cutting class September 7-9.  The class will show how to use laser cutting for backlighting, making switch panels, making your own dash kits and your own store badges.  For more information visit  http://bit.ly/KPU-Laser719
