Corrected: Kicker (Stillwater Designs) announced two of what it calls first-of-their-kind audio systems [to be sold as options] through car dealers.
One is actually a tailgate system that comes as a dealer option. It is a car audio system literally embedded in the tailgate, that automatically plays when the latch is opened.
Another new system is the first premium truck audio option for the car dealer that works with an app, said Kicker.
It is designed for the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado and 2019 GMC Sierra. The FlexTune app controls the audio settings on the system’s digital signal processor/amplifier.
The Kicker system includes a custom-fit, powered subwoofer enclosure and a DSP amplifier powering the full-range door speakers. The app can set a 5-band graphic equalizer to adjust bass and other features via an iOS or Android phone. Drivers can save audio settings as presets.
The system is covered under the truck’s warranty.
Additionally, Kicker also provides a 10-inch, 200-watt powered subwoofer system by itself that adds bass to the factory sound system. The components draw little power from the truck’s electrical system, said Kicker.
Another system is a new tailgate audio option for the 2019 GMC Sierra. It turns on and off automatically when the gate is raised or lowered. It is a 100-watt, exterior audio system that comes with a pair of weatherproof speakers and compact amp, a charging USB port, a 3.5mm audio jack and Bluetooth compatibility.
It includes two, 4-inch weatherproof coaxial drivers that are independent from the main car audio system. Users can control it over Bluetooth via a smartphone or tablet for use at parties, job sites, camping and tailgating.
The one-amp USB port will charge a phone, and it will also accept and play any audio from a USB memory stick.
The systems will be unveiled during the SEMA Show starting October 30 (booth # 11861) at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
