Motorcycle Audio Sales Climb

Motorcycle audio sales have steadily climbed over the past several years and continue to gain a larger share of suppliers’ 12 volt sales.

Rockford’s Bill Jackson said earlier this month that the company has doubled its sales since launching Harley audio kits in recent years.

Elettromedia motorcycle audio sales in 2021 over 2020 grew by over 50 percent.  The category is 15 percent of company sales.

Motorcycle audio accounts for about 25 percent of Arc Audio sales and 20 to 30 percent of  MMATs sales.

Diamond Audio/CerwinVega Mobile has seen double digit growth in the category.

New motorcycle-only brands are cropping up including Cicada.

Soundstream, as of February, was adding 10 to 12 new dealers a day based on its new motorcycle audio lines.

AudioControl said its first two ACX motorcycle/powersports amplifiers sold so well it is adding four more to the lineup this summer.

JBL, which just launched its first motorcycle audio replacement speakers in the fall of last year, is looking to expand the line.  It showed at the recent MasterTech Expo new amplifiers and woofers to join the current 6.5 and 6 x  9 inch Harley drop-in speakers. Sizes and configuration of the new amplifiers and woofers have not yet been finalized.

Motorcycle audio supplier SOUNDZ has seen double-digit revenue growth annually over the past few years.

New motorcycle audio products are also available from PRV Audio,

Mike Hall of MMATS audio, who has followed the market for years, believes it is growing steadily by 10 percent industry wide each year.

Columbus Car Audio’s Jayson Cook said, “Motorcycle audio grows more and more every year. These guys are doing what we used to do with cars. They are making them loud and they are having bike sound offs at biker events.  It’s growing and there’s so much potential that I’m redoing some of my displays to harness more of it.” He added, “If you are not doing motorcycle I think you are missing the boat.”

A counter trend to watch, however, is that some aftermarket brands are selling direct-fit audio kits directly to the Harley dealers, which is cutting into some aftermarket sales, retailers said.
