VOXX Reintroduces BlackJax

Carjacking has risen so dramatically that Clifford, a VOXX security brand, is bringing back its BlackJax anti-carjacking system to the US this month.

The Clifford BlackJax was available for decades but was removed from the US market as carjacking waned, and was sold mainly in Europe and South and Central America.  But with incidents increasing in the US, dealers have been asking for an anti-carjacking product, so VOXX will reintroduce BlackJax, it said.

Select cities have reported exponential increases in carjackings last year, said VOXX.

Chicago carjackings increased over 1,000 percent last year, said VOXX. Total Chicago carjackings hit 1,400 in 2020,  according to NPR.

Minneapolis carjacking incidents more than tripled last year over 2019, reaching a total of 405, said NPR.

Other cities with large carjacking increases include New Orleans with a 126 percent increase; New York, with a 68 percent increase and Oakland, with a 38 percent increase, said VOXX.

Under Clifford’s BlackJax 5 system, the driver enters the car and turns on the anti-carjacking system.  Once they close the door, if it is opened before the device is deactivated a timer starts for about 30 seconds to one minute. At the end of that buffer period the car  siren will blare, and the lights flash and the car will shut down. The buffer provides time for the thief to travel a safe distance away from the victim.

With the vehicle immobilized a short distance away, the owner can recover it.

To activate and deactivate the system, the driver inputs a code in a valet module installed on the dashboard.

The system requires no monthly fees. Retail price is $219.99.

“We’ve gotten a lot of requests from our dealers with the recent increase in carjacking.  There was a lot of chatter on the industry forums asking for a company to do this and we decided to bring it back in the US to serve our customers,” said VOXX VP Vehicle Security Joe Dentamaro.

  1. Seems the objective is DEI products and deleting out quality Voxx Brands starting with Code a major Quality Line deleted. I wonder what brand will be deleted from Voxx. Seems All these DEI brands are the new Voxx concentration of lack of quality.

Such a major disappointment. Seems quality is forgotten and it’s all about quantity not quality. So disappointed. When can we as retailers truly say I trust ONLY ONE TRUE alarm/remote start product line to uphold and sell WITH NO DOUBT EVER TO COME BACK AND BITE US IN THE REAR AMD REALLY BE DEPENDABLE.

We can’t because everyone is trying to corner the market and not create quality products anymore. Wants us to buy product and then call tech support to correct issues.

Pffffffffff angry about junk flea market products

    1. Pretty sure this is left over inventory from 12+ years ago, and part of what Voxx got when they purchased DEI. Clifford G5 is from 2007.
