LoJack Winds Down Service

Long time car tracking/security company LoJack is fading into the sunset.  Its parent company CalAmp announced the “wind down” of US LoJack operations as of December 17.

Pioneer has offered a LoJack product called the rDrive system, which was first announced two years ago.  It allows stolen vehicle recovery, GPS tracking, emergency services and more.

We asked Pioneer about the discontinuation of that system and the company said, “Pioneer does not have any comment to share at this time.”

The Pioneer rDrive is an OBD device that is still offered online by major retailers at $299.

Car dealers who sell LoJack will be supported until June 18, giving them time to find replacement solutions. Final orders must be placed by March 15.

Lojack will support existing customers for six months and will continue supporting law enforcement as long as required.  But, at the same time, the Lojack website adds that “CalAmp will continue to support LoJack customers and law enforcement commitments and integrations indefinitely.”

  1. Lojack should have owned the security and tracking categories, but they were arrogant and complacent (long before CalAmp involvement). Businesses must maximize their current business while looking to disrupt themselves at the appropriate time before someone does it to them.

  2. Dang.. Lojack helped my friend find his camper, which had recently been purchased by someone who then went and kidnapped their own kid from the mother’s house. The police were very, very pleased by that fact when he called in for the amber alert. Lojack was the MVP that day!
