Pioneer Electronics is now shipping two blind spot detection systems it first showed at CES in January.
The systems include a model that mounts on a license plate frame and an advanced system that can detect both approaching and passing vehicles.
The SDA-BS100 license plate bar system works with both metal and non-metal bumpers without cutting or drilling required. It can be installed either at the top or the bottom of the license plate frame. It is advertised at $499.
The SDA-BS900 detects both approaching and passing vehicles. It also works with non-metal bumpers, again without drilling. It also has cross-traffic detection when the car is backing up. It is advertised at $899.
Back in January, Pioneer said the systems will be part of its growing offering in driver assistance products that include telematics devices, traditional rear-view cameras, dash cameras, and rear parking sensors.
Pioneer offers a range of ADAS solutions available in Japan and sees an opportunity to market them in the US, it said.
