Tesla Model S screen probed by NHTSA

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced on Tuesday that it has launched an investigation into Tesla Model S cars due to touchscreen failures.

The NHTSA probe covers 63,000 model year 2012 to 2015 vehicles.  It was launched following 11 complaints to the agency regarding screen failures that cited “memory wearout.”  The result is loss of features including navigation, infotainment, and web access as well as loss of the rear camera feed.

The same Tesla touchscreen system is used in 159,000 model year 2012-2018 Model S and 2016-2018 Model X vehicles the company built through early 2018, according to NHTSA, said industry reports from Reuters (via The NY Times), The Street, Automotive News and more.
